Just like YouTube but get paid for uploading

Sunday, May 25th, 2008 | money ideas with 2 Comments

If you upload videos to YouTube, then why not also upload them to http://meview.metro.co.uk

The only difference is that you will get paid each time a person looks at your video (unlike YouTube).

How does it work? What they do is to attach an advert prior to viewing the video so they are paid by their sponsors and in turn, pay you for generating the content which allowed the advert to be shown.

The Basics of Making Money through Blogging – Part 1 (Paid Per Click)

Sunday, May 25th, 2008 | money ideas with No Comments »

In this modern age, every student is on the Internet whether it’s research, Facebooking, sending emails or just surfing in their spare time. In addition, many students set up webpages or blogs for themselves, course projects or to do with their interests.

If you have set up a webpage of some sort, why no monetize it? By this, I mean actually making it generate some revenue for yourself. It’s relatively simple to do to an existing webpage or blog that you may have set up. The basics of doing this (and I really do mean basics, I can cover the more advanced stuff later) involves:

Putting up Paid-Per-Click (PPC) links

If you look at the top of this post, you will see two links which should bear some sort of relevance to the post.. under this post, it reads ‘Ads by Google’. The way this works is that everytime someone clicks on any of the links above (hence Paid-Per-Click), Google pay me money for introducing the lead. If you lots of visitors to this site, then there is a greater chance of them clicking these links and the more money you can make. However, you should never click your own links as you will be banned forever and your account with them suspended.

I have used Google Adsense on this site but there are many other providers which can provide you with a PPC solution, ones I have used include:

Google Adsense
BidVertiser
Oxado

For more information, read the Wikipedia definition of PPC:

An extra £120 a year through National Shopping Monitor

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008 | freebies, money ideas with 1 Comment

I received a parcel through the other day and even though it was addressed to the other half, I opened it to have a look. There were a range of pamphlets and something which looked like an old Palm pilot! I called her to see if she had made some brash last minute attempt to bag a bargain on Ebay and she told me rather that she had signed up for this scheme called National Shopping Monitor.

It is basically a survey type thing.. they want to get an idea of the shopping habits of people, where they go, where they buy etc. Everytime you have bought something from the supermarket, you scan in the barcodes for the objects you have purchased into the Palm type device and it sends the data back to it’s data warehouse (wherever they are).

For the trouble you are awarded points and points provide you with vouchers to spend. There is a list of known brands for which the vouchers are valid.. places like HMV, Argos, Halfords, UCI cinemas, WH Smith, Virgin etc. There are also other member benefits such as discounted AA membership, discounted magazine subscriptions etc etc .

I don’t know if I would have the patience to scan in every single item into the scanner for the cash involved but certainly, as a student, I would do this.

There are some reviews regarding the service here

Their corporate site is here:

I am not sure how one joins this programme as my girlfriend signed up but as soon as I find out, I’ll post it to the blog.
